What really bugs me right now is how hard, bitter and detached people can get. I suppose it is true to say that everyone is a little calloused, but where is the line? When someone doesn't believe in friends, or maybe when they have given up on people. Life happens to everyone, but it is how you react to it that depicts who you are. For some people being trusting comes easy, forgiving, patience, etc. But others really have to work on it and honestly struggle to be better.
You have to wonder if there is a perfect person out there? Then the obvious Christian answer is, yes. Jesus. So when I get flustered by humanity and question how I could possibly be more patient, I open my Bible and start reading the Gospels. Can you see what kind of man he was? If Jesus walked into the room, he wouldn't be this perfect and dainty individual who could be tainted by the world. He is the kind of man who sat with sinners and knelt in the mud to talk to the sick and dejected, he laughed at his friends jokes, grew up as an awkward teen. I forget that he and his family had to flee the country when he was younger because he was going to be killed. You want to talk about drama? Look at his life.
But how did he do it? I dare say that he knew the secret. The mystery, if you may. He didn't let the world corrupt him because his heart was already full. God instilled in him his identity and he never forgot it. I can't say why other people are so hard-hearted, but I can make sure that it doesn't happen to me. No matter what the world says, no matter what happens, I want to chose the right reaction. No matter how hard it may be. All I can do is pray for those who have already been hurt or are angry. No matter how hard I try, it's not me who can fix them. It's God.
